We As Human, an American Christian rock and alternative metal band, originated in Sandpoint, Idaho, in 2001. They gained significant traction after being discovered in 2010 by John Cooper, the lead singer of Skillet, who then introduced them to Atlantic Records. The band relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2011, and despite their strong Christian faith and the prominent Christian themes in many of their songs, We As Human achieved broad acceptance in both Christian and secular music scenes.
Their self-titled major-label debut album, released in 2013, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Christian Albums chart and No. 8 on the Billboard Hard Rock charts. The album featured collaborations with artists like John Cooper and Lacey Sturm of Flyleaf. One of their notable singles, "Take the Bullets Away," featuring Lacey Sturm, even reached No. 1 on Christian rock radio charts in May 2014.
After 15 years, the band officially disbanded in 2016. Following the breakup, former members Justin Forshaw and Jake Jones, with the assistance of producer Robert Venable, went on to form a new band called As We Ascend.
