Nine Lashes formed in 2006 with founding members guitarist Adam "Tank" Jefferson and drummer Keith Cunningham. After adding bassist Jared "Gus" Lankford and guitarist Jon Jefferson, lead singer Jeremy Dunn joined in 2007. They gained early exposure by opening for Day of Fire and releasing their debut album, "Escape," in 2009.

In a series of fortuitous events, their album caught the attention of festival promoter Joe Posey, who recommended them to Trevor McNevan, leading to a signing with Tooth & Nail Records in 2011. They toured with bands like I Am Empire and Red, and their second album, "World We View," was released in 2012, peaking on several Billboard charts.

The band announced their "From Water" tour in 2013 to support their album "From Water to War," released in 2014. Their fourth album, "Ascend," came out in 2016 and shifted towards EDM and dubstep influences. Recent singles from 2018 to 2024 indicate a return to their hard rock roots. The band is back on tour with members Adam and Joseph Jefferson and Lankford rejoining.
