Flyleaf originated as Passerby in 2006, formed by Lacey Sturm, James Culpepper, and guitarists Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya. They released three EPs and gained attention by playing over 100 shows in Texas. After signing with Octone Records in 2004, they recorded their self-titled EP, leading to their mainstream breakout.
Their debut album, released in 2005, featured hit singles like "I'm So Sick" and "Fully Alive." The band toured extensively, sharing stages with major acts like Skillet and Disturbed. In 2009, they released their second album, "Memento Mori," and continued touring, including performances for U.S. troops.
After Sturm left in 2012 to focus on family, Kristen May became the new lead vocalist. Flyleaf released "Between the Stars" in 2014, but May departed in 2016, leading to a hiatus. In 2022, the original lineup reunited, and they announced a 20th Anniversary Tour for 2026, celebrating their legacy and music.
